A quick-thinking Nottingham taxi driver outwitted a passenger who tried to pay with counterfeit cash by skipping his intended destination and delivering him directly to Radford Road police station at 11.30pm on Tuesday 13 October. The driver spotted the fake £20 note from the way it felt in his hands, and when challenged, the man produced yet more forged notes. Neighbourhood Inspector Liz Gaskin praised it as a "fantastic piece of work" by the driver.

A search of the man's home uncovered a military-style 'Rambo knife' hidden under his mattress and a cannabis cultivation kit.

The 23-year-old was arrested on suspicion of using counterfeit currency and possessing an offensive weapon on private premises.

No further fake notes were found at the address, but Gaskin said the search had taken 'a dangerous weapon out of circulation'.
