A Nottingham taxi driver took justice into his own hands on Tuesday night after a passenger tried to settle his fare with counterfeit £20 notes, skipping the man's intended destination and driving instead to Radford Road police station. The trip began at 11.30pm when the suspect flagged down a cab on Nottingham Road, repeatedly urging the driver to change course before the matter of payment arose. A 23-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of using counterfeit currency and possessing an offensive weapon.

The driver spotted the forged notes by feel alone — and each time he raised the issue, the passenger handed over more of the fake bills.

When officers executed a warrant at the man's home, they found a Rambo knife hidden under his mattress alongside a cannabis cultivation kit.

Neighbourhood Inspector Liz Gaskin praised the driver, saying he decided 'the end of his journey would be a night in our custody.'
