Novaya Gazeta, whose former editor the individual won the Nobel Peace Prize, is to close on November 9 after 30 years, with editor-in-chief Sergei Sokolov saying Russian security services had forced the team to end its work. The closure comes after authorities searched Sokolov's home this month and arrested journalist Oleg Roldugin in April on a charge of unlawful access to computerised information. • Roldugin pleaded not guilty and remains under house arrest, extended until 10 November. • Moscow had already classified Novaya Gazeta as a 'foreign agent', the label Russia uses to silence dissent. • Sokolov said in a video statement: 'We will turn off the lights in our home, where we have lived for 30 years.'
