NS&I raises Green Savings Bond rate to 4.73% but experts warn savers can still earn more elsewhere

Even NS&I's own three-year Guaranteed Growth Bond pays 5.07 per cent, while GB Bank offers 5.2 per cent. Sarah Coles of AJ Bell said rising rates had been 'leaving Green Savings Bonds in the dust'. Issue 10 replaces June's 4.45 per cent deal, and savers' cash is locked away for the full three years. The money raised is funnelled into the Government's green projects.

£10,000 would earn £1,486, all paid out in one lump after three years.

That single payout could bust a basic-rate saver's £1,000 tax-free allowance.

The same bond paid a lowly 2.95 per cent earlier this year.
