Nurse who took £770k from 'vulnerable and lonely' 99-year-old is struck off

Rebecca Burwood, a deputy care home manager in Mold, north Wales, spent six years draining a defenceless 99-year-old woman of her life savings through manipulation and coercion. The Nursing and Midwifery Council found she abused her position of trust to pocket more than £770,000, seize the victim's £400,000 home, and fund cosmetic surgery, building work and a campervan — all while the woman, who had no family, depended on her entirely for friendship.

Burwood secretly became the pensioner's Lasting Power of Attorney in 2018, telling nobody at the home, then withdrew £160,000 in large ATM cash raids alone.

She used 'emotional blackmail' to extract cash, warning the victim she could not take her on day trips unless she handed over money.

The woman's bank account was ultimately left empty after transfers, utility payments and the surrender of her £400,000 house — all arranged by Burwood.
