NYC mother held without bail after daughter, 5, suffered heart and brain injuries, court hears

Francis Cabello, 32, appeared in Queens Criminal Court on Friday on second-degree murder charges after prosecutors said Fabiana Cabello had suffered catastrophic injuries to her heart, eyes, lungs and brain. Cabello dialled 911 on Wednesday evening, telling the dispatcher 'I killed my daughter' and directing officers upstairs. Officers found Fabiana face down and bleeding and, rather than waiting for an ambulance, transported her by patrol car to Jamaica Hospital, where she died.

Prosecutors say Fabiana had been running around the home for hours before her mother shut her in a bedroom; the child came out alone 45 minutes later — and then Cabello called 911.

Assistant District Attorney Lindsey Ruzza told the court Cabello made several statements 'in reference to not only killing the child but wanting to have killed her child.'

Fabiana's grandfather Franklin Cabello wept outside court, saying 'we feel mentally and physically destroyed' — but added: 'I forgive my daughter. She wasn't in her right mind.'
