Ofcom probes Channel 5's Huw Edwards drama after the disgraced newsreader complains it was 'wholly misleading and unfair'

Huw Edwards, convicted in 2024 of possessing indecent images of children, has called on the regulator to assess his complaint 'free from intimidation from hostile parts of the press'. Power: The Downfall Of Huw Edwards, starring Martin Clunes, was Channel 5's highest-rated show of the year. It attracted 3.8 million viewers within four weeks of its March broadcast. Ofcom is examining it under fairness and privacy rules.

Edwards, 65, was handed a six-month sentence suspended for two years and placed on the sex offenders' register.

Channel 5 says the drama was informed by testimony from the victim, his family and court reporting.

Edwards says he was denied a fair chance to answer the drama's 'inaccuracies and fabrications'.
