Oil surges to a five-month high above $114 a barrel after Houthi attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure
Saudi Aramco evacuated its Dhahran headquarters as fighting with Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis escalated. Reportedly, Washington and Israel have drawn up plans for renewed strikes on Iran after the US midterms, adding fuel to the rally. President Donald Trump told reporters the US had 'knocked' out Iran and threatened to go 'a little bit further'. Brent is up more than 85 per cent this year.
European natural gas prices leapt another 4 per cent and are almost 30 per cent higher this month.
BP shares rose 1.6 per cent and Shell gained 0.8 per cent, while the FTSE 100 barely moved.
Dennis Kissler of BOK Financial Securities said most traders expect oil to stay 'higher for longer'.
