Oil surges to five-month high as Gulf tanker attacks rattle global markets and send stocks tumbling

Brent crude jumped 3% to $112 a barrel, its highest since 18 May. Iran-aligned Houthis struck Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, killing two at Dammam's civilian airport and two more in a drone strike on an oilfield. Iran's IRGC claims three further vessels were struck by mines in waters west of the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has now warned the US that its regional bases could be targeted.

Washington has ordered some diplomats and their families out of Saudi Arabia.
