One in four glare-hit drivers plan to cut back or quit night driving when the clocks go back this weekend

One in seven dazzled motorists report having come close to a collision, according to new RAC research. A third say oncoming headlights leave them temporarily blinded, and 63% struggle to spot other cars' indicators. Some 6% have cancelled medical appointments rather than drive in the dark. The RAC's Rod Dennis warned millions face the 'unwelcome effects of headlight dazzle'.

A Government-commissioned study last year confirmed some brighter modern headlights cause more glare.

Three-quarters of dazzled drivers say the problem has been steadily worsening.

Night-shy drivers say they see friends less, and 21% feel much more isolated.
