One in ten AI pension answers risks financial harm to savers, PensionBee study finds

Pension savers risk making irreversible financial mistakes by relying solely on AI chatbots for retirement advice, according to new PensionBee research that found one in ten AI answers posed a risk of financial harm. The firm tested common retirement questions and found AI responses routinely omit crucial details, particularly around major life events and when a user's location is unclear.

PensionBee head of pensions Becky O'Connor warned that 'an answer can contain correct information and still leave you with the wrong impression because something important is missing.'

Vulnerable savers face the greatest danger — those who turn to AI chatbots because they cannot afford professional advice are least likely to spot what is missing.

PensionBee urged savers to cross-check AI answers against trusted sources including MoneyHelper, gov.uk, HMRC or their pension provider before acting.
