A 12-year-old girl is among the wounded after a gunman opened fire from a car on people in Trappes and La Verrière, in the Yvelines west of Paris. Mayor Ali Rabeh said the victim who died was of African origin and that another of the wounded was of North African descent. The suspect was arrested in Coignières and remains in police custody. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu described the incident as 'very serious events'.

Mayor Ali Rabeh said the gunman 'seemed intent on carrying out a massacre'.

The shooting reportedly took place across several locations, among them a children's playground.

'It is a miracle that there were not more victims,' Rabeh said.
