Only 3% of A&E chiefs say they are ready as doctors warn the NHS faces a winter 'perfect storm'

'Patients are dying unnecessarily every week,' warns Dr Ian Higginson, president of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. He says politicians 'continue to focus on the wrong solutions'. The college surveyed 163 doctors running A&E units across the UK, and 88% said strain is worse than a year ago. NHS England data shows an average of 3,310 patients a day received corridor care in September.
Doctors say patients are stuck on trolleys or chairs for hours and wait days for beds.
In Scotland, 96% of senior medics polled say their A&Es are poorly prepared.
Higginson: 'I cannot believe it has been allowed to get this bad.'
