Oregon father who shot dead a school gunman apologises to grieving parents for 'not saving their babies'
Kaylub Giamanco, a 36-year-old carpenter, was only driving past Silver Rail Elementary in Bend because he went home to eat leftover tacos with his wife. He hung up on a 911 dispatcher, saying: 'I'm sorry, I have to go in. People are going to die.' He army-crawled towards children 'pleading for their lives' and shot Griffin J John II, 16. Teacher Megan Lambert, 25, and three boys aged five, eight and 11 were killed on 15 October.
He credited a teacher who wrestled the gunman: 'That's a real true hero.'
Giamanco says he still relives it: 'I see faces, I hear voices, I hear screams.'
President Trump praised him as 'a great hero that went in and did the business.'
