Oregon school shooter John Griffin, 16, used his mother's shotgun to blast through safety doors before targeting special-ed classroom
John Griffin III, 16, killed three children aged 5, 8 and 11, and a teacher at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon on Thursday, using a pump-action shotgun purchased by his own mother around the time of his 16th birthday. Griffin blasted through the school's safety vestibule — a system specifically designed to stop shooters — before making his way to a special education classroom. Father Kelik Summer identified five-year-old Rhoam Summer as among the dead, writing: "It was the worst day of my life." Griffin was shot dead by Kaylub Giamanco, 36, a local father who heard gunshots during his lunch break and ran into the school — where his own two daughters were pupils.
Giamanco, who holds a concealed carry permit, is 'not seeking recognition', his family said.
A wheelchair-bound 7-year-old was shot in the face and is in critical condition following surgery.
Griffin's sobbing mother insisted her son was a 'good boy' and said she would have prevented the massacre if she could.
