Universal Pictures has released striking first-look images of Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler as the iconic detective duo, marking the official start of production on 'Miami Vice '85'. Jordan, wearing all-black leather jacket and tie, plays Ricardo Tubbs, while Butler cuts a sharp figure in a grey suit as Sonny Crockett. Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski is at the helm, working from a script by Nightcrawler writer Dan Gilroy. The film is scheduled for release on 19 May 2028.
The period thriller draws its material directly from the NBC series' 1984 pilot episode and opening season, examining the 'glamour and corruption of mid-80s Miami.'
John Leguizamo, who made his TV debut in the original series, is to play the lead villain — calling it 'pretty exciting' to return 40 years later in a bigger role.
