Ousted after five days, Katie Zacharia says she is 'proud' she stood by Trump as White House press secretary

Katie Zacharia, 42, told columnist Joel Pollak that her biggest lessons were to 'stay true to your character' and 'refuse to be defined by the critics'. The mother of four, now back in California, said she wanted to show her children 'what courage looks like'. Her only briefing lasted 14 minutes, and she called her husband 'my president'. President Donald Trump urged her on Friday to 'reconsider' the job.

Trump hired her without telling chief of staff Susie Wiles, who wanted Scott Jennings.

Trump called her 'an attorney', but she had failed her bar exam.

Gavin Newsom's press office mocked her exit with a meme: 'In Memoriam: Tuesday-Friday'.
