'Over my dead body': Mother of Nottingham victim vows killer will never walk free once he can seek release next year

Valdo Calocane will be able to apply to a tribunal for release in January 2027, three years after his indefinite hospital order. Emma Webber, whose son Barnaby was killed in June 2023, called him a 'monster'. The families say they learned this only at a meeting on Monday night, despite having a dedicated probation officer. If he is refused, he can apply again every 12 months.

Grace O'Malley-Kumar's father, Dr Sanjoy Kumar, branded hospital orders 'defunct and not fit for purpose'.

Tribunal hearings take place in private, leaving the families unable to hear who says what.

The sentencing judge said Calocane would be detained 'very probably for the rest of your life'.
