Oxford Street is to go car-free from Monday as Sadiq Khan says it will clear out 'dross' American candy shops

Buses, taxis, cyclists and e-scooters will all be banned from almost a kilometre of the shopping street between Orchard Street, near Selfridges, and Great Portland Street. Westminster council has warned the closure will push traffic onto smaller side roads. Lord Sadiq Khan says the date will 'go down in history'. Every bus route will be diverted around the stretch.
Delivery lorries and emergency vehicles can still enter, but cars are banned from 7am to midnight.
Live facial recognition cameras are due to start scanning Oxford Street shoppers in December.
