Paddy Power owner Flutter is to axe up to 1,400 jobs and blames Labour's gambling tax raid
Around 350 of the jobs will reportedly go at a Leeds hub near Rachel Reeves' constituency. As chancellor, she nearly doubled remote gaming duty from 21% to 40%. Flutter's UK and Ireland boss Kevin Harrington says the firm 'cannot fully absorb' a rise of that size, and some 240 roles are set to go in Dublin. Yet Chancellor John Healey is weighing a fresh slot-machine tax hike at next week's Budget.
Online sports betting duty is set to jump from 15% to 25% next April.
Flutter has already put 100 Paddy Power shops under review, with 400 jobs at risk.
Paddy Power founder Stewart Kenny accuses the industry of 'scaremongering' over jobs to dodge tax.
