Pakistan thwarts Taliban border assault hours after airstrikes kill four in Afghanistan

Pakistan has struck 10 locations inside Afghanistan in what Islamabad describes as precision strikes on sites where drones used to attack Pakistani territory were stored and launched, killing at least four people according to Taliban officials. The Taliban government has vowed an "appropriate response" to the strikes. Pakistani security forces separately thwarted a Taliban border attack on Friday, with several fighters killed, according to security sources.

Information minister Attaullah Tarar said the strikes were 'deliberate, precise, calibrated, and proportionate', targeting only sites directly linked to drone attacks on Pakistan.

Tensions have been escalating for weeks following a bomb and gun attack on a Pakistani police facility that claimed at least 21 lives last week, with a Pakistani Taliban faction claiming responsibility.

Pakistan says earlier strikes on Monday killed 28 'terrorists'; Afghan officials said three civilians died in Kunar province's Nurgal district.
