Parents keep children off school across Scotland as some Glasgow schools lose HALF their pupils after hoax 'bomb threats'

East Ayrshire Council recorded 4,881 pupils absent on Tuesday, three times the 1,600 off on 1 October. Midlothian's absence rate reached 21.5%, compared with 6.9% on the equivalent date in 2024. The threatening emails arrived on Monday, prompting more than 300 calls to Police Scotland. Edinburgh mother Amber Hamilton asked how parents could feel reassured with 'so little communication'.

Police Scotland's Cyber and Fraud Unit is still hunting whoever sent the emails.

Around 300 Northern Ireland schools got the same threat, which police believe came from abroad.

Edinburgh education chief James Dalgleish urged parents to 'calm their fears' and send children back.
