Terrified Paris shopkeepers arm themselves and the Louvre will shut as France braces for more weekend protests
Paris gun shop owner Yves Gollety reports demand has jumped eight to ten times, driven by customers who no longer trust police and are purchasing irritant-firing tear guns. Michele Teboul, whose family lost five stores to looters, says Saturday is Emmanuel Macron's 'last chance to save France'. Businesses are boarding up their windows. Student union UNEF has announced plans for Saturday rallies.
Macron has banned some protests 'so that calm prevails'.
Last weekend brought looting, defaced monuments and clashes with police across French cities.
Tear guns costing €50 to €500 can be bought in France without a permit.
