Passengers fled in 'sheer terror' during a knife rampage on an LNER train, jury hears as attempted murder trial opens
Anthony Williams, accused of attempting to murder 14 people across a Halloween weekend stabbing spree, has already pleaded guilty to 10 counts of wounding on the LNER service in July.
Anthony Williams, 33, is accused of attempting to murder 14 people across a Halloween weekend stabbing spree last year, with prosecutor Christopher Paxton KC telling Cambridge Crown Court he was "marauding through towns and cities, on streets and trains alike, armed with a knife." Williams has already pleaded guilty to 10 counts of wounding with intent on the LNER service but denies all 14 attempted murder charges. The trial began Wednesday after the Doncaster-to-London train was stopped at Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, following the attack.
Williams first struck on October 31, stabbing a 14-year-old boy in Peterborough before targeting a 17-year-old, Isaiah Idris, at Pontoon Dock DLR station.
Ten passengers were stabbed in a five-minute rampage on the train, with Paxton telling jurors Williams struck "when they were defenceless and in fear."
