Paul Whitehouse fights off a mugger at an Islington cashpoint while out buying medicine for his unwell wife

Fast Show and Gone Fishing star Paul Whitehouse, 68, was targeted on Friday night at a cash machine next to the Sainsbury's Local on Essex Road. He took on the attacker, grabbed back his card and left the thief to 'scuttle away empty-handed'. His wife, Dr Mine Conkbayir, said nobody stepped in to help him. She is now urging Londoners to be 'super vigilant' on the streets.

Dr Conkbayir had suffered a bad reaction to treatment, so Whitehouse dashed out for her medicine.

The comedian was 'still frustrated' the next day after taking their daughter to football.

Actor Georgina Hagen wrote: 'Thank goodness he's ok!'
