A man in his 50s was killed on the M2 near Medway Services in Kent after being hit by several vehicles on the coastbound carriageway at around 9.10pm on Tuesday. Kent Police confirmed the death and said his family has been notified. Investigators are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch.

The M2 remains closed in both directions — coastbound between junctions three and five, and London-bound between junctions five and four — with the coastbound side not due to reopen until 3.45pm to 4pm at the earliest.

London-bound queues have reached three miles, with congestion also spreading along the A249 towards Maidstone and the A2 around Rainham.

A driver in Sittingbourne reported the tailback stretched as far as Wickes and said it 'took 30 minutes to go half a mile', while another motorist described the surrounding roads as 'mayhem'.
