Pennsylvania father and his two children, aged eight and six, die in a parking garage murder-suicide, police say
Patrick Lynch, 42, whose six-year-old daughter Caroline had been living with Williams syndrome, a rare genetic condition affecting development and the heart.
Patrick Lynch, 42, of Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, threw his eight-year-old son James and six-year-old daughter Caroline from the roof of a municipal parking garage on Washington Road, then jumped to his own death. Anna DeMase Lynch, the children's mother, had co-founded a disability-inclusion nonprofit in 2025 after Caroline was diagnosed with Williams syndrome — a rare genetic condition affecting development and the heart — and had called the Williams Syndrome Association "our greatest support system." Police Chief Jason Haberman warned the tight-knit community that "everyone in the Mt. Lebanon community will know someone involved in this incident." First responders attempted CPR on all three at the scene, but a medical examiner pronounced all of them dead.
Markham and Washington Elementary schools both closed Wednesday following the deaths, with the school district saying it was "deeply saddened."
Caroline, born in 2020 during the pandemic, had been enrolled at a Temple Emanuel preschool that accepted her after other local schools turned away children with disabilities.
A witness nearby compared the scene to "a horror movie — doesn't match this at all."
