Pensioner, 68, denies murdering a man in an Ayrshire park in 1994 and will stand trial in 2028
Fraser Kilpatrick faces a murder charge alongside 15 further counts, including the rape of a woman and a young girl, as well as an allegation that he poured boiling water on a child. Prosecutors say he struck Shona Stevens, 31, on the head with a hammer in Bourtreehill Park, Irvine, in November 1994. She died three days after the attack, leaving behind a seven-year-old daughter, Candice.
Stevens was walking through the park to the Co-op when she was attacked.
Kilpatrick was charged in July 2025, a year after Crimestoppers posted a £20,000 reward for information.
Prosecutor Alex Prentice KC told the court: 'It is a case of some age.'
