Pensioner, 78, is charged with causing the death by dangerous driving of an off-duty policewoman, 29, in a Cheshire crash

David Millar, of Congleton, has been bailed and is due before Crewe Magistrates' Court on November 23. Pc Alice Mayo, a Macclesfield beat officer, died at the scene on 7 February when her Fiat 500 collided with a Land Rover Defender in Arclid. She had served with Cheshire Constabulary for more than six years. Her family described her as 'beautiful inside and out'.

Her family said Alice 'overcame so much but never gave up' and was 'taken far too soon'.

Chief Constable Mark Roberts hailed her as a 'professional and courageous colleague'.

Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner Dan Price said he was 'deeply saddened' by her death.
