Pentagon is preparing US military bases to survive 90 days alone if a major war cripples America's power grid
Portable nuclear reactors, large-scale battery banks and self-contained local grids would maintain power at every major base in the continental US. The FORTRESS plan was set out by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in a September 30 memo. Civilian factories would be prepared to shift to defence production. Reserves of ammunition, fuel, critical minerals and medical supplies would provide additional support.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell: 'Power is combat now.'
Hegseth vows America cannot be 'starved out, shut down, or cut off.'
