Military whistleblowers have issued what they call an 'urgent SOS' over Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, 46, as his wife Jennifer faces a backlash of her own inside the Pentagon. Staffers have reportedly nicknamed Jennifer Hegseth, 49, 'Yoko Ono' over her unusually powerful unofficial role at the department. She reportedly sits in on high-level meetings, interviews prospective staffers and is described as acting as her husband's 'parole officer and PR agent all at once'. Last month, the White House appointed her Chairwoman of the first-ever Presidential Military Spouse Commission.
Whistleblowers describe Pete Hegseth as the least qualified and most explosive defence secretary in American history.
A Pentagon spokesperson called Jennifer 'a vital asset and a true force multiplier' — and said the department plans to involve her 'even more deeply in the future'.
The couple met in 2016 at Fox News, where Jennifer worked as Hegseth's producer — both were married to other people at the time.
