Peruvian businessman named Hitler Mussolini is elected mayor of a remote Andean district

Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores, a 45-year-old freight businessman, has been elected mayor of Queropalca, a remote district in Peru's Huánuco region, after securing 229 votes in elections held on 4 October. He stood on the Ahora Nación ticket, a centre-left party, and defeated far-right rival Gaspar Osorio by just 25 votes — a race in which only 42 votes divided first from third place. Formal proclamation remained pending once all three tally sheets had been counted. He is due to take office on 1 January.

The name is no freak occurrence — in 2018, Yúngar's mayoral election was won by Hitler Guesclin Alba Sánchez, who campaigned as 'the good Hitler'.

Before joining his current centre-left party in 2025, Flores had been a member of Popular Force, the party of Peru's rightwing president Keiko Fujimori.

In Namibia, Adolf Hitler Uunona won a fifth consecutive local election in 2025 — and has since had 'Hitler' removed from his identity documents.
