Peter Byrne, the Islington-born co-founder of synth-pop duo Naked Eyes, died peacefully in Los Angeles on 14 September after a brief illness, the band confirmed. He is survived by his three children Merlin, Dylan and Chloe, his ex-wife Elena, and four siblings, with a private family memorial planned.

Naked Eyes scored a top-10 Billboard hit in 1983 with their synth-pop cover of Burt Bacharach's 'Always Something There to Remind Me', followed by three further top-40 hits.

Byrne shared Naked Eyes' origins with future Tears for Fears members Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, all having played together in the earlier Bath band Neon.

Beyond Naked Eyes, Byrne sang backing vocals on Stevie Wonder's 'Part-Time Lover' and wrote 'I Am The Cute One' for the seven-year-old Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in 1993.
