Philippine police find child sex abuse videos on devices allegedly belonging to Meghan's father Thomas Markle, who denies wrongdoing
Meghan Markle, pictured with Thomas Markle Sr., 82, whose move to a Florida dementia care facility has raised fears that federal agents may be unable to question him.Seized devices examined by Philippine National Police officers in Cebu City, as investigators said a video recovered from Thomas Markle Sr.'s former home depicted children of Asian and Caucasian backgrounds engaged in sexual acts.
Philippine National Police Maj. Gen. Wilson Asueta told a press conference in Cebu on Tuesday that child sexual abuse videos had been found on digital devices allegedly belonging to Thomas Markle Sr., 82. The footage featured both Asian and Caucasian minors, and authorities stressed that no Filipino children had been identified among them. Asueta said the investigation is "going in the right direction" and that charges would be filed if the evidence warrants them.
The FBI is conducting a parallel investigation and has been in contact with the Philippine Women's and Children's Protection Center; UK police, however, have reportedly made no approach.
Markle Sr.'s granddaughter Noel Rasmussen, 28, said she unknowingly sent the letter containing the abuse allegations that eventually reached Meghan, calling the revelations 'shocking' and 'surreal'.
Markle Sr., who strongly denies all allegations, has been moved to a Florida dementia care facility, and a senior lawyer has warned that the diagnosis could create substantial legal obstacles to any prosecution.
