Pippa Middleton loses row with Kintbury villagers and is ordered to remove an anglers' car park built without permission

West Berkshire Council has ordered Pippa Middleton and her husband James Matthews to demolish a 400-square-metre car park on their £15.5 million Barton Court estate, ruling it 'visually intrusive and urbanised'. The couple have lived on the 145-acre Kintbury estate since 2022 and built the hardstanding on a meadow without seeking planning permission, later submitting a retrospective application.
Residents were 'shocked' to discover that the meadow — formerly home to two horses named Monty and Drummer — had been concreted over without any consultation.
Middleton and Matthews contended that the anglers' car park was necessary because fishing rights on the River Kennet represented a 'significant income stream' that helped fund the estate's maintenance.
Neighbours claimed the true intention was to relocate vehicles away from the Barton Court entrance so they would not spoil the couple's own views, accusing Middleton and Matthews of acting in self-interest.
