Plaid Cymru government plans to delay Welsh council tax revaluation to 2032, keeping bills based on 23-year-old house prices

Finance minister Elin Jones told the Senedd she could not afford up to £80m in first-year relief that a 2028 revaluation would demand. Plaid Cymru won power in May promising a 'fairer' council tax, yet Jones insists the pledge is not abandoned. The delay still needs a Senedd majority, so an opposition party must back it. The Welsh Conservatives had demanded the revaluation be scrapped altogether.

Estimates showed a quarter of households faced higher bands and a quarter lower ones.

Welsh Labour warned that ditching it calls into question 'Plaid's progressive values'.

Jones floated adding extra bands for the most expensive homes instead.
