Plaid's Welsh government plans to delay council tax revaluation to 2032, and the IFS brands its excuse 'absurd'

Bills would stay tied to 2003 house prices, now 23 years out of date. Finance Minister Elin Jones told the Senedd that the cost of supporting households moved into higher bands could reach £80m in the first year alone. The Institute for Fiscal Studies called her explanation 'nonsensical'. Plaid Cymru requires opposition support to push the delay through, and Reform has welcomed the decision.

Plaid Cymru promised voters at the last election that it would make council tax 'fairer'.

Welsh Conservatives branded the move 'cynical' and want the revaluation scrapped altogether.

Hundreds of pounds a year in higher bills could have faced as many as a quarter of households had the revaluation gone ahead.
