Thierry Henry, who co-hosted Monday's Ballon d'Or ceremony at the London Palladium, insists a Socrates pronunciation gag with Kate Scott was scripted and urges critics to "relax.

Thierry Henry posted an Instagram video insisting the Socrates pronunciation jibe at Kate Scott was scripted and pre-agreed, telling critics to 'stop saying I disrespected Kate.' The former Arsenal striker co-hosted Monday's Ballon d'Or ceremony at the London Palladium, where Harry Kane became the first Englishman in 25 years to win the award. Henry also admitted the Yamal exchange was a deliberate joke referencing the 19-year-old's known desire for the main prize, which he ultimately did not win.

Henry revealed he had openly wanted France's Kylian Mbappé to beat Kane for the award.

'That you didn't like the joke, I understand, but please don't do that,' Henry told fans online.

When asked whether the young player trophy was actually the prize he had been after, Yamal laughed and answered 'No!'
