Andy Burnham warns Britain could face a winter of more flooding as Storm Austen leaves thousands of homes without power

Households are being told to keep at least three days of bottled water and long-life food under the new Be Ready campaign, in case of a storm or cyber-attack. Burnham denied the Government was playing catch-up, saying unexpected events are 'becoming more and more common'. He spoke as ministers held a resilience summit on Friday. An amber wind warning runs from Saturday into Sunday as Storm Boelo closes in.

Burnham revealed his own cupboard holds beans, soup and Twiglets, and joked he couldn't 'get by for too long without' the Twiglets.

Storm Austen has already grounded flights and cut power to homes in Cornwall.
