Police and councils spark anger with 'no trick or treat' posters and a warning Halloween can upset 'religious beliefs'

Leicestershire Police and councils throughout England are circulating printable 'no trick or treat' posters, cautioning that Halloween celebrations may offend residents "observing religious or cultural beliefs that do not include Halloween." Swale Borough Council in Kent put out similar advice alongside Kent Police, while Buckinghamshire Council advised trick-or-treaters to steer clear of anyone "fighting demons of their own."
Reform UK councillor Sam Journet condemned the initiative, calling on police to stop turning "every harmless tradition into a national controversy."
One angry social media user complained that police "can't be arsed chasing burglars" yet have the capacity to produce Halloween warning posters.
Suffolk Constabulary separately asked retailers to decline sales of eggs and flour to minors in the run-up to Halloween night.
