Police are to ride with fire crews as up to 1,700 officers deploy against Bonfire Night attacks in Scotland

Scotland's biggest police operation since Trump's visit last summer will see officers riding in fire engines across the country on Bonfire Night, a response to persistent attacks on emergency crews involving fireworks, petrol bombs and other projectiles. Up to 1,700 officers will be deployed, with mutual aid drawn from 18 English and Welsh forces. A Glasgow park has already been designated a police hot spot after a major incident there last November.
Police Scotland seized 350kg of fireworks — capable of firing 600 rockets — from a Glasgow property ahead of tonight, in what ranks among the largest single hauls of its kind ever recorded in Scotland.
Emergency services received 144 firework-related calls on Halloween night alone, during which a child in Glasgow was hit by a firework that landed close to their pram.
The mother of a four-year-old critically injured by a firework in Burnley last year has pleaded for care: 'To this day, our daughter is so frightened by the sound of fireworks.'
