Police dog bites a passing professional dog handler who stopped to help after two force dogs escaped in Leicestershire

One of the dogs that broke out on Tuesday was a serving operational police dog and the other was retired from service. They escaped from the garden of their handler's home in Sileby, Leicestershire, and footage shows them barking in the street before approaching a woman. The driver who pulled over to help says the operational dog bit his ankle, breaking the skin on both sides. Leicestershire Police has launched an investigation.

The bitten driver warned: 'Had a child, an elderly person' met them, it 'could have been much worse.'

He said only his protective work boots stopped a far more serious injury.

He does not blame the dogs and does not want them put down.
