Police evacuate 40 homes in Brentwood as a bomb squad examines 'small items' that were found after a 'neighbour dispute'

Two people — a man and a woman — were arrested at a Sawyers Grove address in Brentwood after Essex Police forced entry at 7.20am following reports of a damaged door during a neighbour dispute. A search of the property uncovered several small items that needed specialist examination, prompting the deployment of explosive ordnance disposal experts and a 100-metre cordon taking in Sawyers Grove and parts of Sawyers Hall Lane and Highland Avenue.
An EOD robot was observed at the scene; displaced residents were directed to King George's Playing Fields Pavilion for the duration of the cordon.
Michael Page, 84, received instructions to vacate the area at around 11:30 and was warned he would not be able to come back for several hours.
The street lies just metres from St Thomas of Canterbury Church of England Primary School, although half-term meant no pupils were on site.
