Police hunt a man and a woman after an officer is shot in the foot in Nottingham city centre

The officer had approached the pair on Angel Row at 4.50am on Sunday, moments before he was hit by a bullet. Both suspects ran off and remain at large, but detectives recovered a firearm at the scene. Forensics teams are working inside a large cordon stretching to St James's Street and Beastmarket Hill. Buses cannot get through the area, which is packed with pubs, bars and takeaways.

Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas called it 'a sobering reminder' of the dangers officers face.

Nottingham East MP Nadia Whittome said the 'truly shocking incident' left her thinking of his family.

Curtis Jackson, 22, said someone was in town 'with a gun ready to use it'.
