The gunman opened fire at around 8:30 p.m. inside the packed Spirit Halloween store at Solano Town Center mall in Fairfield, California, sending shoppers fleeing in terror on Halloween eve. Three of the six injured victims remain in a critical condition, while police have yet to identify or apprehend the suspect. Witnesses described hearing seven shots before crowds stampeded into the car park.

SWAT teams swept the entire 130-store mall, including a cinema screening the horror film 'Halloween', hunting for the shooter.

A separate Spirit Halloween shooting hours earlier in Madison Heights, near Detroit, also left a 21-year-old man dead after an argument between two customers.

'They came in and just started shooting,' a witness told police, as detectives urged anyone with information to call 707-428-7600.
