Man, 19, is arrested after a woman, 36, was hit and killed by a car fleeing police in Leeds

A social-media post about the fatal Leeds pursuit, as West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team appeals for dashcam footage to help identify those who fled the abandoned Corsa on Nippet Lane.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested after a black Vauxhall Corsa he was in struck and killed a 36-year-old pedestrian on Beckett Street in Leeds at 9:52am on Thursday. He was detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving; the chase had started on Harehills Road two minutes before the fatal impact. The Corsa had refused to stop for West Yorkshire Police before accelerating away and hitting the woman.

Officers found the vehicle on Nippet Lane after it had been left there; at least two people ran from the scene, and one has not yet been located.

West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team is leading the investigation and has made a mandatory referral to the IOPC in light of the earlier police contact with the vehicle.

The car has been seized for forensic examination, and officers are asking anyone with dashcam footage or who witnessed the collision to contact them via 101.
