Ben Sutcliffe, the Cleveland Police officer found guilty of gross misconduct, exchanged around 64,000 messages with a junior colleague between July 2024 and November 2025.

Ben Sutcliffe, a Cleveland Police officer for 21 years, took his police dog to a probationary constable's home for sex while he was meant to be on night shift, and a misconduct hearing has now ruled he would have been dismissed had he not already resigned. The pair swapped around 64,000 texts and WhatsApp messages between July 2024 and November 2025. He told bosses they were just friends and urged her to cover it up. Chief Constable Victoria Fuller said he would have been sacked.

Sutcliffe quit in February and is now barred from ever serving with any force.

He starred in Channel 5's Police Interceptors in 2017 and 2018.

Fuller condemned his 'dishonesty over an extended period of time'.
