Investigators seized personal items from the Dublin, California townhouse of Candice Jang, widow of murdered New York Times games executive Jonathan McKinsey, 40, after a three-hour search in which three young children were present. Jang's parents, Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, both 77, are charged with murder after allegedly taking turns shooting McKinsey in a Bay Area park last Saturday, days before a scheduled divorce hearing. Neighbours say officers spent days quizzing them about Jang's treatment of the couple's three children, aged 7, 5 and 3. Jang herself has not been accused of any involvement in the killing.
Unearthed court filings show Jang claimed McKinsey gifted their daughter 'The Memory String' — a children's book about mourning a dead mother — calling it 'deeply disturbing and frightening.'
Jang had also written that McKinsey 'previously threatened to kill me and my parents,' with the couple trading mutual domestic violence allegations during bitter divorce proceedings.
The in-laws' lawyer described McKinsey as 'extremely rageful' and claimed he had 'rained hell' on the family for years before the shooting.
