Police Scotland officer convicted of three rapes committed while on the force in Shetland

Police Scotland officer Carmichael John Williamson, 32, has been found guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh of three rapes and a further sexual offence committed in Shetland between 2014 and 2022. The offending came in two waves: the first in 2014-15, when he was a part-time special constable, the second in 2020-22, by which point he was a fully serving officer.
Bertram called rising violence against women and girls a 'national emergency' Police Scotland must help tackle.
'Particularly when the perpetrator is a police officer': Bertram acknowledged how hard such crimes are to report.
Officers will be investigated whether serving or retired, on-duty or off-duty, as Williamson's crimes were, Bertram vowed.
