Police Scotland rapist sergeant is jailed for 12 years after preying on sleeping colleague — and he was PROMOTED after first arrest

Campbell Petrie, 50, was sentenced to 12 years at the High Court in Glasgow on Friday after being convicted of nine charges of physical and sexual abuse against two women spanning 17 years. Among his victims was a fellow officer he raped as she slept. His first arrest came in 2009, after which he was held for five hours and released, then went on to be promoted to sergeant before his offending continued until 2023.
Petrie is the fourth Police Scotland officer, serving or former, to be unmasked as a rapist within five months; the force currently has 45 serving officers suspended over violence against women and girls.
Judge Alistair Watson said the "gravity of this sustained criminal conduct cannot be overstated" and called Petrie's continued denial of guilt "disappointing."
Scottish Conservative MSP Stephen Kerr is demanding SNP ministers answer for how Petrie remained in the force and was promoted after a 2009 complaint.
